I actually feel kind of bad leaving this place a 2 star review, but I couldn't muster the courage to award it any more than that. The décor/ambiance of this place is pretty awesome. One HUGE screen to watch games on and more smaller ones scattered throughout make for a pretty awesome sports bar. The food is also pretty delicious too. I tried their turkey wrap and it was quite good, as were the fries that came with it. I've also heard good things about their pizza. However, I just can't get passed the lack of attentive service here. It took 20 minutes for us to get our drinks after we had ordered them. I ordered a Spiced Cider and when it arrived it was warm at best (probably because of the 20 min it spent sitting at the bar). Then, it took an hour for us to get our food. There were only 5 of us, and all we ordered were a few wraps and pizzas. It should not have taken that long. What made it even worse was there were plenty of empty tables, they were clearly not too busy to get our food out in time. Now I feel bad writing this, as from what I've heard they have understaffing problems. But I could've let it slide with a 30 minute wait for food. But an hour? Sorry, but I expect better than that when eating at a sports bar.

We have gone here to watch the Packers & Badgers games. Can't comment on the food, but the bar atmosphere is great for a Saturday or Sunday to watch football. The service was welcoming behind the bar, and the drink prices were in line with a bar in this town.

Waited almost two hours for a Hotdog, terrible service, only 2 cooks was the excuse Never again, 0 for 2 at this joint, my fault for waiting

Probably the best sports bar in the area. Lots of televisions, including a huge projection screen they drop down for big games. Also filled with a ton of different beer signage old and new. They generally do a good job getting us seated, even when we have large parties. Food is good, and menu is pretty good. Tonight they were out of grilled chicken, and we have had issues with ingredient outages before, but they were also nice enough to make one of us a Reuben even though it's now off the menu. Free WiFi, but minus one star for not having any good microbrew beers, and no IPAs at all. :(

We stopped here this past weekend on our sleds...definitely happy we did! It was super busy when we walked in, but luckily there was a group just leaving the bar so we sat there. The atmosphere is awesome. Really "northwoods" and neat. I had a potpie and the two guys I was with had burgers. They both loved their food and I loved mine. Will definitely be back next time we're up there!

I gotta give a place that serves delicious food 10 minutes before the kitchen closes a 5 star rating. My boyfriend and I had landed at Rhinelander airport and headed to Eagle River, hoping to grab some dinner after a long day of traveling. When we got to Eagle River, all of the bars had closed their kitchens for the night. We found this spot and decided to try one more time. We both came in and quickly ordered two burgers, and about 10-15 minutes later we had giant, delicious food sitting in front of us. If you were in Seattle and did this same thing, they would just tell you to go elsewhere or order a pizza. The bar and wait staff were friendly, and I loved the bar patrons - some of who were off-duty kitchen staff. Everyone was fun, and they teased me because I left my purse at the bar when we left. And no, I wasn't totally hammered.... I wish I had come back more than once during my week-long visit to Eagle River, but if I do come back next year, I will most definitely return to this establishment. Big thumbs up! :)

It's not fine dining, it's a bar and restaurant which is quite busy much of the time - especially during the summer tourist season or when there is a game on TV. Lumpy behind the bar (who is not the owner, just a local legend) makes a nice drink and the food can be hit or miss but I love the fried chicken and homemade pizza as well as a number of the sandwiches. There's a lot of pre-breaded fried food which is standard Northwoods fare and quite frankly there aren't many great places in Eagle River so if you stick with the right things here it's as good as anywhere. The kitchen and servers seem to get a bit overloaded when it's busy but have a beer or cocktail and enjoy the scenery and/or the games on TV and you're likely to have a good experience. I make a visit on every trip to the Northwoods, I'm a fan!

This place is an icon in the local area; run by the one and only "Lumpy", a character in his own right and active in the community. Nevertheless, there are some serious problems when you come here to enjoy a dinner that stand in the way of success. First and foremost, the waiting is just absolutely agonizing. It seems like you wait to get seated, then wait for your server, then wait for your drinks and then wait for your food and wait some more for the bill. Sometimes little reminders like "a glass of water please" go unheeded and you find yourself asking several times. The waitresses like to turf too, they will just tell you to wait for your server because it's obviously inconvenient for them to bring you a stinkin' glass 'o water. The food is actually pretty good and so are the prices but the service was too much of a pain to give this place a good rating. The pros: good atmosphere to watch sports and have a few drinks. The food is delicious and pretty filling (good sized platters). The place also sits on a lake and offers some spectacular views. Bottom line: if you are willing to brave the wait times, have at it. But be warned, fellow Yelpers have agreed and the verdict is in: you will wait.

If you want to wait a long time for bad service and a below average meal then this is the place for you. I've been here 4 times in 3 years and each time was worse than the time before. I won't be wasting my time or money at this place again. The last time I was there I ordered the "special" of the night, which was the meatball sub. When I bit into it the meatball was cold, very little sauce, and the cheese wasn't even melted. The waitress never came back to the table so I had to go to the bar to let Lumpy know my dissatisfaction. He told me he would adjust the bill, a whopping $3.00 off my bill. So I paid $5.00 for fries. I can get a footling with all the toppings at Subway for $5.00.

The food and service at this place is ok, the service isn't the quickess but it isn't the slowest either. I think I ordered a burger here and it was so-so. It's a good place to good because it is in the same city as our condo and all the cool Green Bay Packers Memorabilia out front is pretty sweet.

Really enjoyed taking our family to Lumpy's for dinner. Ate at the tables in the dining room adjacent to the bar. Great fried fish basket, pizza, and breaded chicken fingers. Nice cold beer and a bottled root beer for my daughter - we all enjoyed the lively scene, vintage beer signs everywhere and attentive service.

We decided to eat here based on recomendations of a few locals. Loved the location on lake and decor. Great for sports games with all the screens. Thats about where it ends. Waited forever for the food. Hour and a half. 20 minuttes for the first drink which did not include the first 10 minuttess from when we sat down and no one seemed to know we were there. When we asked someone who apperared to be the owner or manager about the slow service he replied " if you are looking for fast food go to subway". Hmm. My money. Thought I was customer. I ordered pulled pork sandwich. Took one bite. Set it down. Tasted like it had spoiled. Bad. I really hate to give a bad review because its such a cool place. If you just want a beer at the bar, check it out. Better yet. Buy the place and fix the food and serice issues!

I think things may have changed since the others posted their reviews. I really enjoyed the place. It was a recommendation from a friend. We have passed by this place 100 times and never stopped in. We did not have to wait to long to get seated, and once we did the waitress told us she would be back and she was. We ordered and she kept apologizing for the wait (it was about 30 minutes for our food). Didn't really bother me as I was not in any hurry. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, it was really good. Great french fries too. We had a party of 4 and all of us enjoyed our food. Prices were reasonable. I will for sure visit again when I am up in Eagle River. Great atmosphere (very "north woods").

Lumpy is a really nice guy but that is where the fascination with this restaurant ends. Food is good but nothing can make up for the terrible service. I have tried this place several times and last night was their last chance. Have been to Lumpy's 5 times and the only way to get good service is to sit at the bar. The bar is where Lumpy resides and doesn't seem to pay attention to what is going on in the restaurant. After my first visit with a couple of buddies (sitting at the bar) I bragged to my wife about how good the food was. On my next trip to the north woods I brought her and we were seated with a wonderful view of the lake. After watching several servers walk by and listening to an intriguing discussion about teenage local affairs by the wait staff we were never offered a drink or a menu. Fifteen minutes into this visit we walked out and the bartender just looked at us and said condescendingly , "thanks for stopping by!". I told him we would have been happy to stay if anyone would have noticed we were sitting there. His response was- "oh well." Returning on another trip months later, my son and I tried the fish fry. Seeing White Fish and Lake Perch on the menu was a treat but the young lady serving us could not get the species correct. She kept getting the Perch and White Fish mixed up. Both were good but when pressed on the confusion she insisted we were mixed up and the large pieces of fish were indeed Lake Perch. ( Must be some 6-8 pound Perch swimming in the north woods .) Last night was the topper as Lumpy's struck out. Arriving at 7:00 pm with 3 young children we were treated like it was an inconvenience to be seated. Waitress asked us for a drink order and disappeared for 15 minutes during which time we managed to scrounge up our own menus. When she arrived with the drinks we were rushed into an order. Refills were infrequent and mixed up. After one hour still no food. I tracked down someone who looked like a guy who might possibly be in charge and asked him to check on the food. He came back and said it would be 7 minutes. Thirty minutes later the food arrived and the waitress immediately dropped one of the orders on the floor. She said it would be 4 more minutes for the grilled cheese she dropped. Twenty minutes later, and after everyone else was done with their food, the sandwich showed up. Needless to say we could stand no more and she put the sandwich in a "to go" container. The atmosphere is cozy with a nice rustic log cabin motif but I would not recommend this place for families. Men if you decide to bring your family bring a razor as you will need to shave again before you eat. As for me- I am done with Lumpy's.

We've been to Lumpy's several times in the past few months, always for a late lunch so the place was never crowded. We were seated quickly by the windows with a great view, and had fast, efficient service. The chicken salad wrap is out of this world and the fries as well as the sweet potato fries were fabulous. Check this place out -- I believe new owners came in late last year. The only downside -- too much Packer's memorabilia for this Bears fan! haha - just kidding!

Went there for all you can eat broasted chicken and it was great. The restaurant was busy but I got my food in a about 20 min.. Talked with several waitresses and the bar tender and they were all very friendly as well as the people I talked with at the bar. I will definitely go back. A big thumbs up!

Well, either this place has gone down the hill or it never was very good to begin with. Last week our family (parents, grandparents, sisters, kids...you name it) went to Lumpy's for dinner and not only did we have horrible service but we also had one of the worst meals. We arrived around 5:00 PM, well before the dinner rush and were one of the first tables seated for the night. The waitress came and took out drink orders and they arrived. I want to add that our waitress was rude and not pleasant at all. After a few minutes our food orders were taken. I am not going to get into what everyone ordered because that would be pointless but I will say my sister ordered her 1 year old some chicken fingers and requested they come out before the rest of the meal. I will touch on that in a little bit. Uh oh...here comes the waiting game. Not only did the waitress not come back to our table to refill drinks but they were not waiting on the other tables as well. Heck, the table next to us finally just started to go to the bar for their drinks. And....we wait more. After about 1.5 hours our food still had not arrived and neither had the chicken fingers. Several attempts were made to to talk a manager or the owner but with fail. Finally our food arrived as well as the chicken fingers (might I note...AT THE SAME TIME AS THE MEAL) and the food was just gross and inedible especially the chicken fingers that were overcooked and had little to no chicken in them. I had been to Lumpy's when it opened and thought I could give it another shot. I guess I was wrong and for anyone thinking about going to this place, do not waste your time.

Very very slow service. Ordered 3 sandwiches and took forever. Over an hour to get served. If not for the gift certificate we would have left. The dining area was only about 1/3 full. Probably not the waitresses fault, but she did give is each a drink chip. We left and didn't even utilize the chips.

We stopped at Lumpy's on Sunday night and had a great meal with very good service. My daughter had the pulled pork sandwich which was delicious and my son had the ribs which were falling off the bone good. This is high praise considering we presently hail from KC. I had a bowl of soup and chicken quesidillas. We had lots of leftovers for the next day-as the quantities were gigantic. It looked like a fun place to watch a game and we enjoyed the QB jersey's with X's over them. We didn't see Lumpy, but know from experience that he makes a mean Bloody Mary.

Lumpy's is a great pub. Great pizza, service is good, staff is friendly and Lumpy is great. We're there every day when were in town for pond hockey.

Very nice atmosphere, nice view of the lake, friendly staff etc. Been here a half dozen times ... Probably great for a drink and maybe an appetizer. Service on a Saturday was very slow for two sandwiches ... need to spend some $$ on the quality of the food now that the place physically looks good. For example, the rolls on our $9 fish sandwiches were not even Subway quality. Fries were good, but the roll has a lot to do with the sandwich ... take a trip to Thirsty Whale in Minocqua for some research....

I fish in a "Musky League", yes there is such a thing. Relax, it's all catch and release. I have been hearing good things about this place for quite awhile as having the "best fish fry around" and the place in town to watch sporting events With Eagle River being somewhat off of the beaten path for me, I just kind of filed the raves the joint was receiving for a later date. Yesterday was that later date. Me, my "boss" and our kids were going to make an evening of it at the Vilas County Fair. Not smart Wally, watch the weather forecast. We got thunder'd and lightning'd right out of the Fair after about 30 minutes on site. Barely enough time for me to acquire another frosty at the beer tent. Rats! As my thirst had not yet been quenched, the deep recesses of my middle aged mind clicked "Lumpy's fish fry" Away we went. Upon arrival to a jam packed parking lot my first thought was "too long of a wait". With three wet hungry kids and an equally wet and hungry wife my options were nil. And, I needed libation. From the outside the joint doesn't look all that big, but looks turned out to be deceiving. It's huge! It's a funky old Northwoods lodge type structure that I later found out from "Lumpy" was over 100 years old. It's packed with a mind boggling number of beer signs and neons. Everywhere you look there's a Hi Def television. Almost sensory overload. The "Wait to be Seated" sign greeted us and in a matter of 30 seconds or so the Hostess arrived from the dining room. The wait we were told was "about half an hour maybe 45 minutes". Great! I gave the kids some quarters for the games and managed to snare two seats at the bar from a couple that was leaving. Being the inquisitive guy I am, I asked the 30ish couple if they had dined here. Response: "Yes, we love their fish fry and they let us eat at the bar" OK, so far so good. Our bartender, as it turned out, was the owner, Lumpy. To say the least, a prototypical bartender. Funny, working the crowd at the bar, a real hoot. Lo and behold, my first cocktail was hardly down and the Hostess had our table. Rather than surrender my valuable seat directly in front of my personal mixologist, I contemplated turning the table down for the next one. Divorce Court would have awaited me. We were seated in the, for lack of better explanation "main" dining room. The other dining room overlooks the lake and would have been my preference but where we were was fine. There is huge projection type HDTV in the room so it wasn't exactly like staring at the walls. Our waitress was a smiley 20 something young lass. We (meaning boss and kids) hadn't had time to figure out what we were going to order. So, I quickly placed my cocktail order from the bar. For me it was a no brainer. Anytime there is an all you can eat something, I'm in. I opted for the all you can eat beer battered Atlantic Whitefish, my wife had the broiled shrimp, the kids split a very nice looking pizza (followed us home in a box...thin crust, very yummy). All I can say is Excellent. My wife's shrimp were huge and priced very fairly at 13 bucks or so. The 16 inch pizza the Storm Troopers nibbled at was less than $20 My seemingly always empty Old Fashioned managed to be refilled twice during dinner, maybe because everyone else was through and I was still chowing down the delicious whitefish. We paid our check ($65) at the bar, an option I like when offered, and were bade a very hearty "thanks folks stop again" by the other bartender. Having only scratched the surface of what's on the menu here, we will be back, I'm thinkin' maybe the smoked bbq'd ribs. Next time, no kids so we can stay longer and catch some more of Lumpy's schtick. Wally
